Accurate and Robust Indoor Localization Systems using Ultra-wideband Signals

چکیده
Indoor localization systems that are accurate and robust with respect to propagation channel conditions are still a technical challenge today. In particular, for systems based on range measurements from radio signals, non-line-of-sight (NLOS) situations can result in large position errors. In this paper, we address these issues using measurements in a representative indoor environment. Results show that conventional tracking schemes using highand a low-complexity ranging algorithms are strongly impaired by NLOS conditions unless a very large signal bandwidth is used. Furthermore, we discuss and evaluate the performance of multipath-assisted indoor navigation and tracking (MINT), that can overcome these impairments by making use of multipath propagation. Across a wide range of bandwidths, MINT shows superior performance compared to conventional schemes, and virtually no degradation in its robustness due to NLOS conditions.

Localizing with Passive UHF RFID Tags Using Wideband Signals
Localization of positions and detection of objects is a key aspect in today’s applications and, although the topic exists a while ago, it is still under ongoing research. The introduction of global navigation satellite systems (GNSS), particularly GPS [1], and its improvements with accuracies down to a few meters, was a huge step towards ubiquitous localization [2, 3]. This is almost valid for ...
متن کاملDemo Abstract: SurePoint: Exploiting Ultra Wideband Flooding and Diversity to Provide Robust, Scalable, High-Fidelity Indoor Localization
We present SurePoint, a system for drop-in, high-fidelity indoor localization. SurePoint builds on recently available commercial ultrawideband radio hardware. While ultra-wideband radios provide a pairwise range estimate natively, we show that with the addition of frequency and spatial diversity, we can achieve a 53% decrease in median range error. Because this extra diversity requires many add...
متن کاملSlocalization: Sub-μW Ultra Wideband Backscatter Localization
Ultra wideband technology has shown great promise for providing high-quality location estimation, even in complex indoor multipath environments, but existing ultra wideband systems require tens to hundreds of milliwatts during operation. Backscatter communication has demonstrated the viability of astonishingly low-power tags, but has thus far been restricted to narrowband systems with low local...

This paper deals with the problem of radio localization of moving terminals (MTs) for indoor applications with mixed line-of-sight/non-line-of-sight (LOS/NLOS) conditions. To reduce false localizations, a grid-based Bayesian approach is proposed to jointly track the sequence of the positions and the sight conditions of the MT. This method is based on the assumption that both the MT position and...
متن کاملNon-line-of-sight identification in ultra-wideband systems based on received signal statistics
Non-line-of-sight (NLOS) propagation can severely degrade the reliability of communication and localisation accuracy in indoor ultra-wideband (UWB) ‘location-aware’ networks. Link adaptation and NLOS bias mitigation techniques have respectively been proposed to alleviate these effects, but implicitly rely on the ability to accurately distinguish between LOS and NLOS propagation scenarios. A sta...
